Social Action

As a community (Mumford Class of 1964 and 1965) we feel it is important that we take on Social Responsibility and pass on to the current Mumford Community some of what we gained.  What an amazing opportunity we had in the education we received....and we would like to PAY IT FORWARD.

Phyllis Davis Williams and Ricky Stoler are co-chairing the Social Action/Responsibility committee, gathering a committee and working through how we can benefit the Mumford students of today.

In the meanwhile, a classmate of ours, ALLEE WILLIS (Class of 1965), is a Grammy, Emmy, Tony and Webby award winning and nominated songwriter/artist. Her songs have sold over 50 million copies  including "September" and "Boogie Wonderland" by Earth, Wind & Fire, "Neutron Dance" by The Pointer Sisters,  "I'll Be There For You ",the Friends theme song, and the Broadway musical The Color Purple.

But besides being an accomplished songer writer -- Allee's heart lies deep in Detroit and in Mumford.  Allee has written a song dedicated to Detroit called 'The D" that she want to record with every Detroiter who wants to be on the record as well as film it for accompanying videos and a documentary.  All profits go to to Detroit art gems, the Heidelberg Project and Mosaic Youth Theater.

You can hear the song and red more about the project here on the fundraising page.  Allee is doing two fundraisers in Detroit on July 10th and 11th

Allee wants to spread the word to our class at Mumford and other alumni so that you can come to one of the fundraisers in July and be a part of the record, video and documentary in September.

Allee is inviting every Detroiter to join her in recording and filming of the song, video, and documentary of “The D” in September—for more information on “how to participate: www.AlleeWillis.com/detroit/
