Your best MUMFORD Memory. A one-liner just from you.

Only Senior I know of who started his school day at 5:30 AM (Marching Band practice) and left at the end of the day ( entire schedule consisted of every band/choir elective available and, oh yeh, 1 or 2 required academics)!

If I knew then what I know now.....

I never would have listened to Mr. Shelby when he told all the senior guys in band NOT to pursue a career in Music Education, because we wouldn't be able to support a family.

Grandchildren

Amber, born 1993; Matthew and Nathanial, born 2004; Ivy Rose, born 2013; Lucy Helen, born May, 2014

School Story:

I was only an average student, academically. Spent more time in the Arts electives; Marching Band, Concert band, Stage Band, Choir, assorted music classes, plus Usher Staff. I had planned on going to college for a degree in Music Education, but was talked out of it by Mr. Shelby, our Band Director. He told the seniors that men going into education would have to end up working extra jobs to support a family because teachers didn't make a great salary. He, personally, also worked with the Detroit Concert Band, side gigs, and taught privately. I turned away from music education, and was attending a technical school for computer programming when I was drafted.

Comments:

Drafted into the Army in 1966; Vietnam 1967-1968. Married in 1969 - divorced in 1972. Moved to California in 1972 and traveled with a band thru 1975. Re-entered the Army in 1975 and remained until 1990. Worked in the print industry and auto industry (1990-2013). Married (Paula) in 1999. Ordained in 2009. Retired in 2013. Paula and I became 1st-time grandparents on April 8, 2013, and 2nd-time grandparents on May 25, 2014, and now split our time between Detroit and Chicago visiting our daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughters. I have, also, recently reconnected with my first-born, Lori, who was kidnapped from me at age 6, and her 10-year-old twins. I drive to Petoskey, weekly, to see them. Also, since I retired, have spent a lot of time on my Harley!!!
