Neal Bruss (1965)

Steve was brilliant, patient, very good-tempered, and an excellent writer at our Mumford Mercury and at the University of Michigan Daily, and became one of the first technology-beat writers in weekly journalism, for Business Week.  When I last saw him in A2 46 years ago, he had a wonderful girlfriend, Susie, and they learned and played bridge on top of everything else they were doing as students.  (The obituary photographs show her as his wife, Steve holding a grandchild.)  I am very fortunate to have known him, had him as a friend, and seen the memorable path of his development from the time we were in Mr. Kaufman's English class.

I remember him well.  He was bright and easy to talk to. We went to Mumford senior prom together. Lost touch in college. Knew he would be a success. Glad he had a loving marriage, children and grandchildren. He died too early.

Michael Breyer (1965)

Stephen and I were close friends while at Schultz Elementary.  We lived a half a block from each other and were together most of the time.  He was so intelligent that he was called "Doc" in elementary school.  Had lost contact with him in the mid 70s.  Obviously went much too soon.  Will always have fond memories of Stephen.
