Larry was a great friend of mine growing up on Tracey Street. We both attended Vernor Elementary and we teamed up to  launch  a neighborhood newspaper called the Neighbor's Looking Glass that was filled with local news, gossip, cartoons, jokes and occasional profiles of our teachers at Vernor (which, needless to say, were total puff pieces). Larry was on the quiet side but very smart and very funny. He went on to U-M after graduating from Mumford and did quite well academically. Tragically, he developed leukemia and died shortly after graduating from college.

Larry and I were good friends.  We discovered and shared classical music together.  I remember listening to Beethoven's Fifth Symphony with him in his attic bedroom.  His death was untimely, shocking and jarring.  He was a gentle person and seemed to vanish suddenly.  He lived lightly on the earth and left it lightly as well.

I think I may still have a copy of the Neighborhood Looking Glass ! I remember folk music, going down to the Fisher Theater, and my first love when I think of Larry. He was funny, but a serious soul who worked hard and planned for the future that he never had the opportunity to live. One of the first to leave us way too soon!
