Kenneth Bertin (1964)

Stuart was a great athlete. We bowled on the same team at Varsity Bowling Alley on Livernois. The manager was a gentleman named Jesse a man with a great sense of caring and a mentor to young bowlers. He would often work with Stuart because he saw in him great potential. Stuart would joke with him and always try whatever Jesse suggested. He developed an unconscious hook that obliterated the pins. The result was numerous mid-200 games. Stuart was also a very pleasant individual who also had an edge, never shy about letting one know how he felt about a subject. When MS robbed him of his athleticism he remained always upbeat until his untimely end.  I offered to pick him up and take him to what would be the last reunion before he passed, although he gratuitously declined you could tell how much he appreciated the offer. I miss the guy.

Lewis Elbinger (1964)

Stuart was my cousin.  His mother was the sister of my grandmother (Mother's side).

We played together as children and attended Mumford High School together.

He was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) at age 19.  The disease robbed him of his vitality, but kindled a fire in his spirit.  He lived in a wheel chair until he died in his early 40s, but he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, raised money for MS treatment and lived a valiant life.

Thank you, Ken Bertin, for your tribute to Stuart.  He deserves to be remembered with kindness.
