I learned Modern Dance from her. She was little but she could move! The basics of Martha Graham were eye opening. I don't think I ever properly thanked her for those lessons in movement.

I also liked Ann Zirulnik very much and learned so much from her.  We saw the film "Dancer's World" in her modern dance class.  The movie changed my life.  It is the story of Martha Graham and her dance company.

When I went to live in New York City afater graduating from MIchigan I went to The Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance and studied there for 4 years in evening classes while working.

I remember taking a class with her also. It was great and a wonderful way to earn my gym hours.

Ann Zirulnik was my Swim teacher!  She helped me overcome my fear of the water and encouraged me to pass the Intermediate Swimming test.  I still remember her coaching me from the side of the pool--urging me on!  So wish I had taken Dance with her, too!

After years of ballet lessons, Ann Zirulnik broadened my horizons and taught me about modern dance.  She had high standards for all of us, but was patient with everyone whether you were a good dancer or not.  I often think of her when I go to dance performances and wish I could thank her for the love she instilled in me for all kinds of dance.

Ann Zirulnik was also my swimming teacher. She allowed several of us to skip lunch and study hall and swim instead. That went above and beyond her regular duties as a teacher. Such fond memories.

I can't hear Appalachian Spring without thinking of Mrs Zirulnik. I continued modern dance at U-M, and while living here in Pittsburgh. Because of Ann I've gone to Jacob's Pillow and many dance concerts through the years. My daughters have danced and now my granddaughters, too. By far, Ann was my favorite teacher and inspired a life time of interest in and enjoyment of dance.
