School Story:

High School Beefs: My worst high school fear came true; I got Ms. Middleton for Biology. I think I was probably the youngest adolescent to almost have a nervous breakdown (lol). It wasn't funny then though! The swim coach ruined my tenth grade 3.5 GPA with a "C" in swimming; a class I LOVED! He graded only on stopwatch times, not strokes demonstrated, nor any other merited criteria. He theorized, and I quote: "Black people seem to have denser bone structure; thereby not as speedy in the water" !!##?? To this day, I've allowed and encourage my students to do complementary work to augment their grade, and/or protect their GPA. ESPECIALLY if they're skill deficient or not INHERENTLY "gifted" or otherwise 'physically challenged' ( I use this term loosely) in singing.
