I lost a great friend - from MacDowell through Mumford, then ongoing, we both lived in

Seattle a year in the late 60's,then saw each other in the Bay Area when he visited with

his wife Rosalie, then kept in touch over the years while he was in Boston. He was a caring

and outgoing person who will be greatly missed.

John was a very special person to me, a friend from early MacDowell days through Mumford. We played sports together (he loved to punt the football) and I recall playing softball at the playground with John and his sister, Barbara.  I was often at his house and he at mine and I knew his parents well. I doubt I would have passed advanced math (Mr. Dunwoodie) without his help.

He had a unique sense of humor to accompany his brilliant mind, and, while outgoing, he was always humble. I’d caught up with him in Seattle and stayed with him and Rosalie in Boston. He stayed with me when in town for reunions and I was looking forward to the next reunion and his planned visit next July. I didn’t know he was ill.

There is something especially sad when losing one who, along with a few others, was there from the start, no way to replace that kind of friendship. Even though we weren’t in touch much lately, I feel the loss deeply. My condolences to Rosalie, David and family.

John Bookston was a sweet boy who grew into a good man. I'm so sorry to hear we've lost him. The world is a little less. He was the first boy I ever kissed and I was always very grateful that my first kiss was with a gentle, sweet soul. I had nothing to fear.
I wish his family the most wonderful memories and dearly hope that your life with John was all you hoped it would be.

So sad to here of John's passing. We were friends at Mumford through our mutual interest in mathematics. Mr.  Dunwoodie's class. I have seen him infrequently in recent years at re unions or when he was in town. I remember that  I was pretty good at math, but never as good as John. Such a great loss, condolences to his family.

John was an amazing friend, I remember him fondly from MacDowell and of course from Mumford.  John made you feel special, he was kind and generaous and one of the smartest 'boys' I ever knew.  Recently, John and I were texting about the 60 year reunion and he was so excited to come in for it and see 'old' friends.  John you will always be in my heart - you touched so many lives....fondly, gail

John was one of the kindest people I knew at Mumford. I would not have done well in Algebra if it weren't for his  help and patience. He will be missed!

What a wonderful person! I remember walking on occasion with John, the late Steve Parker, and Tom Ditkoff toward the Hamilton Bus even though the one running down McNichols was more convenient to me. John didn't mind me being a "hanger on" even though I didnt say a lot and I enjoyed the conversation a lot. Very sad to l hear the news.
